Luck Be a Lady Tonight...
Before we left on our trip, I decided that following the Hoover Dam we would drive down the strip in Vegas and head out of town. Some time soon I want to go on vacation there and do the whole Vegas thing, but on this trip where I only have limited clothing/shoe choices, no jewelry, and NO MAKEUP, I thought it would be best ot just skip it. Well, Joel had other plans! He convinced me to just check on priceline for a cheap hotel...and it worked! We spent Thursday night at the Luxor casino (the pyramid themed one) for only $59! Granted Priceline messed everything up and Joel ended up spending 2 hours on the phone with them trying to fix it...but it was so worth it! Thursday night we went to a dueling piano bar at the New York, New York casino. It was a lot of fun, but I paid for it the next day! We also gambled (and lost) a whopping $20. We had so much fun that I was convinced to stay another night. In order to stay within our budget we had to switch to a cheaper (read dumpier) hotel. We stayed at the Sahara which I guess was really popular years ago. There were pictures everywhere of Elvis, the Beatles, and other celebrities from when they stayed at the hotel. It was 115 degrees both days we were there...SO HOT!!! We spent Friday at the hotel pool which was about 90 degrees and in no way refreshing. That night we did the tourist thing and hit up the strip. We saw the Treasure Island "Siren" show on the pirate boat and watched the volcano erupt outside of the Mirage. We ate dinner at Margaritaville. We tried to catch the fountain show at the Bellagio and see the Fabulous Las Vegas sign but were unable to. This morning we slept in one last time and then drove up to Bryce Canyon in Utah. Another breathtakingly beautiful drive! Tonight will be a rude awakening as we're back to camping..but we're easing into it a KOA!
